Be Safe this Halloween

Halloween is upon us. There are scary ghosts, goblins, and witches. Remember that Halloween can be lots of fun but only if your family is safe. Remember to have a plan when your children go out trick-or-treating. Make sure that they stay with you (or trusted friends/family) and have a place and time to meet up in case anyone gets separated. Make sure that your children have several contact numbers with them (written on a post card) and to dial 911 if they are ever in danger.

Ensure that there is at least one responsible adult in the group who can keep tabs on the little ones and make sure that you have their contact number in case you need to contact them. Remember to inspect all candy and do not let your children eat any until you have done so.

When your children return home, you can select a few pieces to inspect right away so that you can give them to your children (provided they are safe to eat); this will allow you time to inspect the rest of the candy and keep those little hungry ghouls at bay.

A few rules to discuss with your children:
  •       Always stay with the group
  •       Never go inside anyone’s home or vehicle
  •           Do not eat any candy before returning home and having it inspected
  •       If something doesn’t seem right…get away immediately and tell a trusted adult or police            officer
